Let’s look at using social media in your business.  I often get asked my business sells ABC widgets and I do not think because you are not on social media that your customers are not. That is the wrong way of thinking. Look at social media as a way of being able to have two-way communication with your customer.  You are not going to just promote your product or service and a customer is just going to look at it and buy because they have seen an ad or ebook.  Those times are gone.

The best way to get to know your customers and is to build a solid relationship. The best way of doing that is to get two-way communication going. Looking at where your customers are buying online, what questions are they asking.

Encourage them to contact you and interact with you. Have your customers understand that they are not going to be sold too. A great way to do this is through social media. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter.  Just pick one of these networks and just spend 5 to 10 minutes a day communicating with your customers, asking engaging questions. Remember that even offline businesses whether you are a shop or whatever products you have, can and should use social media to do this.

Also, it is important to look at other items your customers are looking at online. What are your other competitors doing? You may have a competitor that is very active on social media.  Have a look at what they are doing and then start to implement some of the positive activities onto your social media and creating this two dialogue today.  Then you will start to notice the compound effects of dealing with your customers.
